These 7 Cork coastal walks are basically therapy for the brighter evenings

There’s a magic to Cork’s coastline in spring.
The evenings stretch a little longer, the Atlantic seems less grey and more inviting, and the light turns every headland into a painting you can walk right into.
You don’t have to be chasing grand summits or months-long pilgrimages; sometimes a comfy pair of shoes, a path that curves with the shore, gulls wheeling overhead and the promise of a pub at the end, is all the balm you need.
Below are the best coastal walks in Cork that reward brighter evenings with real sea air and unhurried views.
1) Old Head of Kinsale Loop
A rewarding 6.2 km loop around the headland near Kinsale, this walk treats you to broad coastal panoramas and glimpses into maritime history — most notably views linked to the Lusitania tragedy off the tip. While access to parts of the land adjacent to the golf course is restricted, plenty of fine sea views remain on public rights of way.
Why now: Evening breezes here can feel almost cinematic — a perfect setting for an early spring sunset.

2) Sheep’s Head Lighthouse & Peninsula Walks
The Sheep’s Head peninsula is one of Ireland’s most loved coastal walking landscapes: long, narrow and jutting into the Atlantic with sea on both sides. While the full Sheep’s Head Way is a long-distance trail of nearly 90–175 km, there are many shorter loops — including an accessible Lighthouse Loop of about 4 km that wraps around to the iconic structure and back.
Why now: Brighter evenings give you more time to linger by the lighthouse, and the remoteness of the route feels especially peaceful in spring before the summer crowds arrive.
3) The Scilly Walk (Kinsale)
This is one of Cork’s most quintessential waterside strolls — a gentle path from near the Spaniard Inn out to Summercove. Unlike cliff paths, this is coastal road and shore path combined, with sea views, yachts slipping in and out of harbour and a sense that someone ought to have written a song about it.
Why now: Ideal for an early evening jaunt followed by a pint or supper in one of Kinsale’s excellent pubs.
4) Cape Clear Island: Gleann & Cnoicín Loops (West Cork)
If you’re prepared to take the ferry from Schull or Baltimore over to Cape Clear — Ireland’s southernmost inhabited island — you can enjoy coastal trails like the Gleann Loop (~7 km) and shorter Cnoicín Loop. Both offer sea views at every turn and superb spring-evening light reflecting off the Atlantic waters.
Why now: Off-the-beaten-track island walking feels all the more special in spring’s gentle warmth.

5) Knockadoon Cliff Walk (East Cork)
Not always on the main tourist lists, this stretch of coastline near Ballymacoda and close to Ballycotton offers a coastal path with dramatic cliff viewpoints and plenty of space to smell the sea and hear only the wind. Local walkers recommend it highly as a slightly quieter alternative to the better-known Ballycotton trail.
Why now: Longer evenings and quieter routes make this a lovely choice if you want space to yourself.
6) Garryvoe & Youghal Boardwalks (East Cork)
For something a bit more leisurely — but still unquestionably coastal — the area around Blackrock, Garryvoe and Youghal offers wide seaside promenades and boardwalks where you can amble with a coffee or an ice-cream. Locals cite these as ideal for short evening walks that still deliver sea air and skyline views.
Why now: Perfect for a casual post-work hour before supper or a cycle with the kids.

7) Inchydoney Island Walk (West Cork)
Just a bit beyond Clonakilty, Inchydoney has broad sandy beaches and flat coastal paths that nearly beg you to walk and watch the tide come in. It’s a popular spot with locals and visitors alike, and its panoramic Atlantic views are particularly lovely in the soft spring light.
On a wilder day, head for Castlefreke (main image) to watch the waves crashing on the sand and head to The Fish Basket for the best fish and chips you’ll find in this part of the world.
Why now: Wide horizons, few midges and the promise of a memorable sunset.
