A one-hour evening walk will uncover the rare plants hiding in Beaumont Quarry

There’s a little pocket of wild Cork that you might not even know exists – and this week, you can explore it.
As part of National Heritage Week, nature lovers are being invited to join an evening walk through Beaumont Quarry Wildlife Area, discovering the fascinating plant life of this hidden urban gem.
The one-hour event takes place on Wednesday, August 19th, from 7pm to 8pm, and will be led by Nature Network Ireland ecologist Craig Gibbon.
A wildlife haven in the city
Managed specifically for wildlife, Beaumont Quarry is home to three rare species and an important area of calcareous grassland – a type of habitat that supports a particularly rich variety of plants.
The walk offers a chance to slow down, get out into nature and learn more about the wildflowers and plants growing right on Cork’s doorstep. And because it’s taking place in the evening, it sounds like a pretty lovely way to spend a summer Wednesday.
Led by Nature Network Ireland ecologist Craig Gibbon, walkers are advised to bring sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing.
Free tickets are available for the event, which is part of this year’s National Heritage Week programme, over here.
