Kinsale’s ‘kids triathlon’ is back this weekend with fun for all ages on the beach

Got a little one who never sits still? This is for you.
The much-loved Kinsale Kidathlon is making its return this Sunday, July 19th, with children aged six to 15 invited to take on a fun-filled swim, cycle and run at Dock Beach, just outside Kinsale.
Run entirely by volunteers from Kinsale Triathlon Club, the annual event has been encouraging kids to get active for more than a decade. But unlike many sporting events, this one isn’t all about winning medals or crossing the finish line first.
Instead, the Kidathlon is built around a simple idea: having fun, building confidence and enjoying the outdoors.
What’s happening on the day?
Young participants will compete in age-appropriate categories, tackling a swim, bike ride and run in a safe and supportive environment, with the emphasis firmly on taking part rather than competing.
Better yet, every child who takes part this year will head home with a goodie bag as a reward for their efforts.
The event has become a real community effort over the years, with local volunteers, neighbours and members of Kinsale Triathlon Club coming together each summer to make the day happen.
Race Director Andrew Lockington said the club is looking forward to welcoming families back once again.
“Our club and this event is run entirely on volunteer power. It is great to bring everyone together to cheer on the children for this special day. Every child gets to feel like a champion, as they should! We can’t wait to welcome families back to the beach on July 19.”
Registration costs €15 and closes at 6pm on Friday, July 17th. To register, visit triathlonireland.com (navigate to ‘Find a Race’).
