Escape the grind with a free hands-on nature workshop in a hidden Cork City garden

Attention, city folk.
If your idea of a perfect morning involves fresh air, creativity and escaping the city buzz for a while, there’s an upcoming Cork event that might be right up your street.
As part of the Cork Lifelong Learning Festival, locals are being invited to swap screens and coffee queues for plants, sketchbooks and a slower pace of life at a special Connection & Creativity in Nature workshop.
The event takes place on Saturday, April 25th from 10am to 12.30pm at Togher Community Garden, one of the city’s most charming green spaces tucked quietly away from the traffic.

Designed for curious minds and nature lovers alike, the relaxed morning workshop will encourage participants to slow down and notice the small things — from the patterns of leaves and the movement of insects to the sounds and textures that often go unnoticed in daily life.
Rather than being a formal class, the session leans into the festival’s spirit of lifelong learning with a hands-on, creative approach. Participants will be guided through simple exercises in mindful observation, creative writing and sketching inspired by the natural world around them.
Think less classroom, more nature journaling: jotting down thoughts sparked by the garden, sketching plants or simply sitting quietly and paying attention to the environment. Organisers say the aim is to help people reconnect with nature while boosting creativity and wellbeing — something that can be especially appealing for city dwellers who spend much of their week surrounded by concrete and screens.

By the end of the session, attendees will have tried out creative prompts for writing about nature, experimented with sketching and sensory journaling, and picked up tools they can continue using on future walks or outdoor adventures.
And in a city where many people are increasingly seeking out green spaces — whether it’s a stroll through Tramore Valley Park or a quiet corner of a community garden — this kind of slow, mindful activity is becoming more popular.
The workshop is part of the wider Cork Lifelong Learning Festival, which celebrates curiosity, creativity and learning at every age through events held across the city. Reserve a spot now here.
