You’re a mighty bunch.
Yesterday we published a story about Secret Recipes, a Ballincollig-based kitchen that has launched two affordable meal box deliveries to help people care for themselves and their family members during these weeks of strict social distancing.
As well as setting you up with a week’s worth of nutritious meals for an incredibly reasonable €35, the company also offers an option where you can donate a meal box to a Cork charity, who will make sure it reaches the right doorstep the following day.
Overnight, the story was shared almost 2,000 times and orders came in from all over Ireland and further afield.
A spokesperson for Secret Recipes told us: “Of all the orders we got yesterday 52% where people donating to charity. Of these donations 61% went to Age Action Cork and 39% went to St Vincent de Paul. These order will be cooked fresh today and be with the charities in the morning.”
“Our first order came from San Francisco from a daughter buying meal pack for her mother in Douglas. Other donations came from Belfast and Dublin.”
“I’d ask people to check on their elderly neighbours. We got an email yesterday from a lady in her late 70s who is looking after her husband with dementia, pleading for some meals as she was afraid to leave the house.”
You can order or donate:
- A Vulnerable Citizens Meal Box: Seven lunches and seven dinners for €35
- A Vulnerable Family Meal Box: Five main course and side dishes plus 10 portions of fresh soups for four people: €50
