Tired of turkey? 5 fun Cork takeaways to order tonight

By Christina Collins December 26, 2023December 21, 2023

Don’t get it twisted.

Turkey is delicious. And we absolutely love the three types of potato and the melt-in-the-mouth stuffing with just the right amount of homemade turkey gravy poured over the sprouts.

But there comes a time when enough is enough. There comes a time when we crave a simple ‘auld slice of pizza, or a bitta’ falafel, or even a California roll to revive our December palette.

So here are five Cork takeaways where you can get something a little different into you before you expire along with the turkey:

1. Sultan Cafe Restaurant & Shisha Lounge

Sultan Cafe Restaurant and Shisha Lounge specialises in Levant dishes. In fact, they’re ranked number one on Tripadvisor for Lebanese food on Leeside.

The menu boasts everything from fan favourites like lamb tagine and chicken shawarma to sultan wraps, falafel, baba ganoush, tabbouleh, hummus, Moroccan-style harira soup, and spicy potato. An absolute hidden gem, located on Penrose Wharf. Order from Sultan Cafe via Deliveroo.

2. Pizza from Novecento

If you’re not trying to reinvent the wheel but you are looking for a guaranteed delicious dinner, Novecento is one of Cork’s most popular pizzerias for a reason.

The crusts are thin, and the ingredients are fresh,  making for a succulent and rich taste without the fuss. You can order Novecento via their own website here.

3. Palestinian food from Izz

There can be no doubting the superiority of flavour coming from Cafe Izz on George’s Quay. If you are a veggie or a vegan, Izz has lots to choose from and if you are looking to indulge your sweet tooth with something a little lighter, their desserts come highly recommended.

You can order food from Izz via Deliveroo.

4. Fish and chips from Jackie Lennoxes

The portion sizes are decent, the chips are chunky, the batter is light and the fish is fresh.

There’s not more you could ask for from a takeaway if you’re craving a bitta fish. You can order online from the Bandon Road chipper by joining the queue or via their website.

5. Japanese from Sakura

Sakura offers a stunning selection of beautiful and tasty hand-crafted Japanese dishes. You will want to get a bit of everything to really do your order justice. We’re especially fond of the ramen and tempura accompanied by any of the norimaki with their fresh and authentic wasabi, which you want to be careful with because it is strong.

You can order online from Sakura via their website here.
