Two new walking tours will take you on a wander at the Old Head of Kinsale

By Yay Cork June 4, 2026

Ready to escape the city for a few hours?

If your idea of a good reset involves swapping traffic noise for crashing waves, salty air and a proper dose of Irish history under open skies, there’s something new heading for the Old Head of Kinsale that should be on your radar.

A fresh guided experience called Wild Atlantic Walks is launching this season, led by local historian, author and lifelong Old Head man Jerome Lordan—someone who doesn’t just know the coastline, but grew up with its stories.

Running three days a week (Wednesday to Friday), the experience gives both locals and visitors a chance to see one of Cork’s most dramatic stretches of coastline through a completely different lens: part nature walk, part living history lesson.

There are two ways to do it:

The first is a morning coastal walk, kicking off from Bean & Berry Café in Garrettstown. It’s a gentle wander through local social history, old place names, shipwreck stories, and the kind of small details you’d normally walk straight past—sea plants, marine life, and the hidden geography of the coast included. It starts at 10am and costs €15 per person.

The second is a deeper dive into one of the most famous maritime disasters in the world. The Lusitania Talk & Walk begins at the Lusitania Memorial Garden at the Old Head Signal Tower, where Jerome brings the story of the RMS Lusitania to life—its sinking, its global impact, and the Old Head’s connection to it all.

From there, it’s a short guided walk down towards the ruins of De Courcey Castle, with sweeping Atlantic views and plenty of time to take it all in. It runs at 2pm, lasts around 90 minutes, and costs €12.

For city folk craving fresh air,  this one’s worth the spin out of town. Bookings are available now over here.
