Learn how to build a wildlife-friendly garden at this free hands-on workshop

Does your garden currently consist of one dying herb plant?
If so, Cork City Council is here to help. A free full-day gardening workshop focused on biodiversity, climate action, and low-maintenance planting is happening at The Glen Resource & Sports Centre on Friday, May 22nd — and it sounds like the ideal excuse to finally find out what composting actually involves.
Running from 10am to 4pm as part of Biodiversity Week, the hands-on session will cover everything from wildlife-friendly planting and seasonal garden combinations to growing your own fruit and veg, reducing waste, and using nature-based solutions to deal with rainwater.
Basically: how to make your outdoor space look better while also helping the planet a little bit.
The workshop will be facilitated by gardening expert Aoife Munn and aims to show people that climate-conscious gardening doesn’t have to mean turning your back garden into a full-time job. Topics will also include creating a more circular economy at home, smarter planting techniques, and practical ways to encourage biodiversity without sacrificing aesthetics.
Whether you’ve got a sprawling garden, a tiny patch of grass, or just a couple of pots hanging on for dear life, the workshop promises plenty of practical takeaways for greener living — literally.
