Join this guided walk in Ballincollig for hike tips (and enjoy a free coffee afterwards)

The weather is steadily improving.
If your ideal Sunday involves fresh air and good coffee, this upcoming Cork community walk might be your thing.
Regatta Great Outdoors is hosting a free guided community walk through Ballincollig Regional Park on Sunday, May 31st — giving people the chance to explore one of Cork’s nicest green spaces while meeting fellow outdoorsy types along the way.
The relaxed 8km walk kicks off from the Regatta store in Westside Retail Park at midday and will wind through Ballincollig before looping through the sprawling regional park, with organisers promising plenty of scenic riverside views, woodland trails, meadowland, and maybe even a heron sighting if you’re lucky.
And because no wholesome outdoor event is complete without a little historical trivia, walkers will also learn about the site’s past as the former Ballincollig Gunpowder Mills — once the largest gunpowder mills in Ireland back in the late 1700s.
Brews and views
The walk is designed to be beginner-friendly, with an easy pace over roughly two-and-a-half hours, making it ideal for anyone trying to get outdoors without committing to climbing a mountain before breakfast. Regatta’s team will also share practical hiking tips along the route, including advice on footwear, layering, and preparing for more ambitious walks in future.
Even better? There’s coffee waiting at the finish line. Which, honestly, is the kind of motivation we can get behind.
Just don’t forget waterproofs. Register for a free spot here.
