Head out at dusk for a guided Bat Walk through a Cork park

Fascinated by bats?
Nature lovers and night owls alike are being invited to discover the secret world of these tiny creatures during a special Biodiversity Week event at Ballincollig Regional Park later this month.
The guided Bat Walk, taking place on Thursday, May 21st from 8.30pm to 10.30pm, will give attendees the chance to explore the park after dark while learning about one of Ireland’s most misunderstood mammals.

Hosted by Cork Biodiversity Hub and led by Bat Conservation Ireland guide Dawna Connolly, the evening will begin with a short talk on bat ecology before participants head out into the historic parkland for a leisurely nocturnal stroll.
Visitors can expect to hear fascinating facts about bat behaviour, habitats, and the important role the creatures play in local ecosystems. The event will also include demonstrations of special “bat detectors”, devices used to pick up the high-frequency sounds bats make while navigating and hunting at night.
Organisers say the event is suitable for anyone with an interest in nature, wildlife, or simply trying something a little different in Cork this spring.
Attendees are advised to wear comfortable shoes, bring warm clothing, and pack a flashlight if possible. Booking is essential as places are limited, and children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
