Anyone can pop in and use this Seed Library in the middle of Cork city

Fancy doing some planting this weekend?
There’s something very wholesome happening in the middle of Cork city — and it might just inspire your next weekend project.
As brighter evenings and sunnier days finally start to arrive, plenty of people are getting the urge to grow something, whether that’s a full vegetable patch, a balcony herb garden or just a few flowers on the windowsill. And thanks to the Cork City Library, you can pick up seeds for free right in the heart of town.
The Cork City Seed Library, based inside the Rory Gallagher Music Library on Grand Parade and housed in an old repurposed wage packet cabinet, is packed with vegetable, herb, flower and wildflower seeds donated by local gardening enthusiasts and community growers.
Among those contributing is Aisling Kett, founder of the Cork Soil Savers composting project on Kyrl’s Quay, alongside plenty of other green-fingered Corkonians helping to keep the shelves stocked.

The idea is beautifully simple: take some seeds, grow what you can, and hopefully pass some seeds back in the future to keep the cycle going.
And the best part? You don’t need to be an expert gardener to get involved. The Seed Library is open to everyone, from seasoned growers to children and complete beginners just trying to keep one basil plant alive.
