Put on your headphones and take this walk through Cork’s cinematic past

Think you know Cork city? You might want to take another look.
A new self-guided cinematic walking tour is giving people the chance to explore Cork’s fascinating film history while wandering through the city – and you can do it completely at your own pace.
Moving Pictures: A Historic City Walk, from Cork Film Festival, takes listeners on a journey through seven locations in Cork’s VQ, uncovering stories from more than a century of cinema history along the way.
The best bit? You don’t need to join a tour group or book a particular time.
Just stick in your headphones, head for MacCurtain Street, press play and follow the map as you make your way through the city.

The tour is presented as a podcast journey with architectural historian Dr Danielle O’Donovan, exploring the places and stories that have helped shape Cork’s cinematic past. And if you’re someone who walks around the city every day without really stopping to look at what’s around you, this is a pretty good excuse to change that.
The in-person Moving Pictures Walking Tour is currently fully booked, but the podcast means you can still experience the tour whenever suits you.
Whether you’re a massive film buff or simply someone who fancies learning something new on a city stroll, it’s an easy way to see a familiar part of Cork from a completely different perspective.
And there’s more to come – an expanded version of the tour is planned for this year’s Cork Film Trail in November, with booking details set to be announced later in the year.
So grab your headphones, pick a day with decent weather and get ready to discover the stories hiding behind some of Cork’s most familiar streets. The link is over here.
