West Cork is calling.
And if you’re planning a spin to Skibbereen or beyond in the coming months, there’s a fabulous new reason to make a staycation out of it.
The gorgeous Liss Ard Estate has had a handsome makeover, with all 26 guest rooms treated to an extensive luxury renovation and a number of dog-friendly rooms available if you’re rocking up with Rover in tow.
Four of the venue’s nine first-floor Mews Country King rooms and some Lake House rooms are pet friendly.
The fee for a dog is €25 a night and that includes dog treats, water and food bowls, and a blanket for your pampered pooch.
Set on 163 acres boasting manicured gardens, all ripe for exploring with your furry friend, the Estate dates from 1853. Now in the hands of US owners Colin Best and Michael Johnston, there’s a newly refurbished lounge to relax in, as well as a gym, yoga studio, and sauna.
There’s plenty to explore as you ramble the grounds, from the 12km of walking trails and 40-acre private lake to James Turrell’s renowned Irish Sky Garden, a giant earth and stone crater embedded into the landscape of the Liss Ard Estate gardens.
The artwork consists of an archway, a long megalithic-like passage, and stairs leading to an oval-shaped, grass-lined crater, where the visitor is invited to “lie back and look at the sky”.
Afterward, you can head back to your room and kick back in the outrageously plush bathrooms:
All that exertion should leave you ravenous, so you’ll be more than ready for lunch at Garden, Liss Ard’s AA Rosette-awarded restaurant, or brunch alfresco with views of the rolling green fields that surround the property.
