This fun African dance class will teach you some serious moves

African dance is having a moment.
Online dance trends, especially on Tik Tok, have introduced people to different styles from all over the world and TBH we’re dying to join in the fun.
For those who are looking to upgrade their skillset from the viral one-legged move made famous by Ghanaian creator Jay Hover, there are plenty of classes in Cork to get you moving like a pro.
Dance teacher extraordinaire Esmeraldo Tavares, originally from Angola, is showing Corkonians how to dance Kizomba-style in a new class at Collective Cork.
Kizomba is a genre of dance and music that originated in Angola in 1984. The word literally means ‘party’ and it’s characterised by a slower, romantic, more sensuous rhythm usually danced in couples.
Tavares has been teaching dance for over 15 years and his weekly class also includes instruction in tarrachinha and semba, both of which promise to make you more flexible and help you get in touch with your more sensual side.
Esmeraldo will lead you around the dance floor every Thursday from 7:45pm at Collective Cork.
You can book online through their website or pop in on the day. Drop-in classes are €12 or €8 for students and unwaged people or you can buy a five-class pass for €50.
