Got a collection of bras you don’t wear?
There’s never been a better time to declutter your underwear drawer and put them to good use; a UCC-based group is running a collection for Smalls for All and they’re taking donations of new and lightly worn bras, as well as new pants for males and females.
“We tend to take for granted our easy access to underwear and forget that it can be a luxury that is not affordable or available for everyone,” said Róisín Spriggs, chairperson of the UCC Biomedical Science Society.
When it comes to bras, many of us simply hold onto ill-fitting sizes when they can’t be returned to the store, meaning many sit unused for years before being dumped. Smalls for All accept new or gently worn (laundered) bras which can be any size, including sports and nursing bras.
If you would like to donate pants, simply buy a packet of ladies size 8-14, children aged 3-15 or men size XS-L. While they collect all colours, the ladies’ pants in greatest demand are black – in full brief, midi, mini or high leg (in the smaller sizes).
“Our charity partner, Smalls for All will distribute the underwear collected to people in need across the UK and Africa. If your readers are anything like me, they have a drawer of bras at home that never see the light of day and they could make a life-changing difference to these women.”
Volunteers will be accepting donations outside the Boole Library from 10am-2pm from October 18th-21st and there will also be a drop-off box in the SU offices.
