There’s ‘significant’ sleet and snow expected later this week

Just when the daffodils were starting to appear.
Met Eireann issued a nationwide Status Yellow snow-ice warning this morning, with plummeting temperatures sweeping wintery conditions across the country.
In Cork we can expect it to remain very cold this week with scattered wintry showers and ‘some accumulations of snow’ expected.
Now is a good time to stock up on de-icer for the car too; according to the national forecaster there will be ‘widespread frost at night with icy stretches on untreated surfaces’.
Frost and icy patches will develop as temperatures fall to between -1 and +2 degrees tonight, Monday, while rain and sleet will develop in the west towards midnight and will spread eastwards overnight.
Tuesday will begin with more rain and sleet in many places with wintry showers expected to continue through the day.
There is the possibility of a more significant spell of sleet or snow on Thursday too, particularly on high ground.
Better dig out the thermals.
