In the market for a new job?
If you fancy pulling pints in one of the most characterful pubs in Cork, there’s a unique opportunity in the offing at Sin É on Coburg Street… but you’ll need to tick a few boxes first.
In a tongue-in-cheek post on Facebook, Sin É owner and local publican Benny McCabe announced that he was looking for “suitable junior crewmates for Sin É’s next voyage”.
“Suitable candidates could be understated pugilists fond of Planxty leaning towards Punk Rock, knowledgeable on Cohen, fluent in McGowan, proud of Gallagher and all to be played in the course of one’s work,” said McCabe.
“Art and sculpture appreciated and comic books too. History both east and west, horses flat and jump, whiskey even the rye, philosophy again both East and west with extra credit granted for Bruce Lee.”
Potential hires must possess a sense of humour, an “ability to deflect drive-by mockings, empathy towards those that are struggling and hospitality towards all that would not abuse it.”
Candidates will enjoy ball hopping but never name dropping and have an appreciation of dimmed lights, candles “and absolute symmetry in the workplace including straight lines in the stools and no visible seams in the lampshades showing (might suit those of us with OCD).” added McCabe.
Of course, there’s one important skill you can learn on the job: “Asking have you ever poured a pint before, well that’s really not asking the right question is it? That’s the least of it.”
