‘It’s time to say goodbye’ Blackpool barber shop to close after 87 years

“It’s time to say goodbye.”
Beloved Cork barber Michael Moriarty, also known as The Baldy Barber, is to close his family barber shop in Blackpool after 87 years in business.
The well known businessman shared the news over the weekend “with a heavy heart, but a mind at ease”, saying:
“After 59 years behind the chair, it’s time to hang up the scissors and finally retire.”

Moriarty’s first opened its doors in 1937, founded by Mick’s late father, Peter Moriarty, on Merchant’s Quay.
“We later moved to Blackpool, where I’ve been snipping, clipping, and shaving ever since. I took over the running of the shop in 1971, and it’s been a privilege to continue his legacy and serve this wonderful community for so many years.”
This Saturday, November 8th, The Baldy Barber will close its doors for the last time.

“I want to sincerely thank all of my loyal customers, and my father’s before me, for your friendship, your stories, and your support over the decades. A huge thank you also to everyone who’s worked alongside me over the years, especially Donnacha, my right-hand man. I couldn’t have done it without you.
“I’ll miss the chats, the laughs, and the people….but I’ll always be grateful for the memories.”
For regular purchasers of Mick’s alopecia tonic, no need to worry – it will still be available after the shop closes with details to be announced soon.
“Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. I suppose it’s time to spend some quality time with my little wife, enjoy a few rounds of golf, and hopefully many years of good health.” he added.
