Here’s everything you need to know if you fancy cycling through Cork city in the nude

It’s a unique way to stay cool, we’ll give them that.
Back again for another year of bare-arsed activism and a bit of frolicking around the streets of Cork, the Leeside leg of the World Naked Bike Ride takes place on Saturday, August 27th, 2022.
World Naked Bike Day has been delighting participants and bemusing onlookers for a number of years. The idea was born as part of a campaign raise awareness of cyclist safety after six cyclists were killed in road accidents in Zaragoza, Spain, prompting the organisation of naked bike rides in about 80 countries across the world.
Cyclists are invited to go naked (bare as you dare) to emphasise how vulnerable cyclists are in a collision as well as to challenge car culture and promote cycling as a sustainable alternative.
The event also aims to promote body acceptance.

In 2013, the naked bike ride coincided with a new Guinness World Record attempt, in which 316 Corkonians laid it all bare for the most body-painted individuals in one place.
Although many cyclists don their birthday suits, it’s not mandatory. Many attendees choose to have their bodies painted on the day of the ride as painters from all over the country travel to Cork to decorate participants, giving the Cork cycle a fierce reputation for being the most creative ride in the world.
This year, the festivities are set to take place from 3pm-6pm on Saturday, August 27th, 2022. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
