Cork’s Underwater Hockey team is looking for new members

And now for something completely different.
If your usual sporty hobbies aren’t quite doing it for you anymore, a decidedly different sports team has put a call out for new members.
Cork Underwater Hockey Club is launching a 2018 Beginners session starting on Wednesday, November 14th.
Running for four weeks in conjunction with Cork Sports Partnership, players will get a handle on snorkelling, puck handling and team play.
Underwater hockey player Joleen Cronin told Yay Cork:
“It’s great craic and we have a Cork team going in Mayfield Sports Complex for a few years now. The game originated as a way for divers to train during cold winter months when the sea got too cold for open water diving and was originally called Octopush.
“The Cork team is fairly active, and there are also teams in Dublin, a new team in Limerick and also Belfast. There are regular Irish league games and we’ve been a few times to the UK and France with the Cork (and Irish Ladies) team.”
Ready to give it a go? The four week course costs €50 and training takes place every Wednesday at 7.30pm. You can register and find out more details here.
