Cork’s rollerskating revival continues with a new meet-up at the Mardyke Skatepark
Lace up your boot skates.
There has been a huge rollerskating revival in the last couple of years as the sport enjoys the biggest boom in popularity since its heyday in the 1960s.
In fact, Cork is home to several rollerskating clubs, ranging from casual meetups to more hardcore roller-derby teams who skate competitively.
Now there’s another one to tempt you onto eight wheels; this weekend, CIB Cork, which is part of a larger, global community of skating groups, is organising its first skate meet-up of the year at the Mardyke Skatepark.

With the closure of Cork’s indoor skating parks in the last two decades, skaters now have limited space and variation, leading to crowding in current facilities.
The group is calling for an upgrade to the public Mardyke Skatepark as well as petitioning for a new facility in East Cork.
The CIB Cork skate meet-up takes place this Sunday, April 24th at 10:30am. Attendees are encouraged to bring water, equipment and protective gear for the event.
