Now there’s a casual roller-skating club for adults and it looks like major fun

Remember lacing up your first pair of roller skates?
Readers of a certain vintage will remember the thrill of sailing down a smooth slice of pavement or twirling about on freshly-laid tarmac in a sturdy pair of boot skates… and now there’s a new group hoping to help you recreate that feeling.
With chapters in Dublin and Cork, 50 First Skates is a roller-skating club for grown-ups.
The community was started by Dublin self-taught skater Nicole Douglas mid-pandemic, this time last year. Now there are weekly meet-ups “for gays, gals and non-binary pals” where you can learn how to break in your boot skates, how to get started and what type of safety equipment you might need.

Not only is skating top-notch exercise (you’ll find the burn is a bit more intense than it was when you were nine), it’s also a fun way to meet new people and get some fresh air and sunshine as the weather improves.
