Looking for a new spot for an alfresco stretch in town?
A new outdoor yoga class will be held in the Quaker Burial Grounds on Summerhill South on Wednesday evenings, inviting participants to “connect to life and its energy in all forms.”
“It’s not as creepy or odd as it sounds,” Nikki Cousins, who leads the class, told Yay Cork.
“The class will be in the beautiful gardens to the rear of the Meeting House, which is also the location of the 17th Century Quaker Burial Grounds.
“The burial grounds are in a large grassy area, shaded by trees. Some of the grass is landscaped, whilst some parts are left wild to encourage biodiversity. It is an incredibly calm peaceful spot, which is amazing as it is so close to the city centre.”

The yoga session is held with the utmost respect for the resident Quakers.
“In case you’re concerned, we won’t be doing any yoga on graves, as there is plenty of empty space in the area. Although we will be in the graveyard, it is also a beautiful walled garden. By having yoga classes here it will be a way to connect to life and its energy in all forms.”
Weather permitting, the class (€8 drop-in) will be on Wednesdays, 6.30pm-7.30pm. Booking is through nikkicyoga.com and numbers are limited in line with government guidelines.
