Cork’s farmer’s markets are ready to reopen. Here are the first confirmed dates…

By Katie Mythen-Lynch May 14, 2020May 18, 2020

Have you run out of fancy jam, kefir and fresh pasta?

If you look forward to a weekly ramble around the stalls at your local farmer’s market, there’s some good news on that front today; market traders have been given the green light to reopen on May 18th, 2020 and Cork artisan food producers are busy planning their comeback.

Of course, there will be some re-jigging of layouts in line with social distancing guidelines, but as we get accustomed to the new normal it’s nothing you won’t have seen before.

Meanwhile, traders are prepping their baked goodies and fresh produce to distribute to grateful city folk in the coming weeks.

Get your basket ready; here are the dates that have been confirmed so far:

  • Coal Quay Saturday Market

Market traders are hoping to be back in their spots on Saturday, May 23rd if everything goes to plan. Safety measures, social distancing guidelines and news will be posted on the Facebook page.

  • Clonakilty Friday Market

Friday, May 22nd is looking good for the reopening of the Clonakilty Friday Market. It’s not confirmed yet so keep an eye on their Facebook page in the coming days.

  • Douglas Farmer’s Market

Stallholders are working hard to try and have a market open for Saturday, May 23rd. Keep an eye on their Instagram feed for confirmation that it’s going ahead.

  • Mahon Point Farmer’s Market

Mahon Point Farmer’s Market will return for the first time since the lockdown began on Thursday, May 21st.  The layout will be changed to adhere to social distancing guidelines but apart from that it’s all systems go. Further details will be shared on their Facebook page here.

  • Bandon Farmer’s Market

Bandon Farmers Market is reopening on Saturday, May 23rd. Stallholders are excited to get going again and you can find updates on their Facebook page.

  • Killavullen Farmer’s Market

The committee is currently formulating a plan “with safety for all being a priority”.  Check out the Facebook page for a reopening announcement soon.

  • Midleton Farmer’s Market

The Midleton Farmers Market farmers and producers have announced they will be opening again on Saturday, May 23rd. Check out Facebook for updates.

  • Ballincollig Farmer’s Market

No date available just yet.

  • Blackrock Village Sunday Market

The plan is to open a scaled-back Blackrock market in the coming weeks but organisers have not confirmed the date just yet so visit the Facebook feed for updates.
