Cork may escape thunderstorms forecasted for the weekend

We could get sun or we could get thunder.
All of Ireland is currently in the midst of a Status Yellow weather warning for thunder and spot-flooding, and Met Éireann’s regional forecast for Munster suggests that this kind of weather will continue into the weekend… but there is some hope for those in the southwest.
Friday is set to be slightly calmer, with “a mix of cloud and sunny spells along with just isolated showers for much of the rain, more frequent showers or longer spells of rain will extending from the northwest during the evening.”
However, once Saturday comes around, we can expect to see breezy winds and isolated showers, and eventually isolated thunderstorms bringing the risk of spot flooding.
Thankfully, it is expected that this weather will be at its mildest in the southwest — with the weather for the area described as “drier and brighter with just isolated showers.”
As for Sunday, Met Éireann has confirmed “showery conditions will continue with thunderstorms possible,” although we can expect the weather to be better down south than it will be in the north, with “drier and sunnier intervals” to occur. Temperatures will remain at between 15 and 19 degrees throughout the rest of the week.
The current thunderstorm warning will remain in effect until 7pm today.
