Ashling Thompson’s diet secrets will help you crush it this week

Bored of your fitness resolutions already?
Adopting some of GAA superstar Ashling Thompson’s health and fitness habits could help you get in the best shape of your life… without enduring so much as a hunger pang.
The Cork camogie champion has long been an advocate for using exercise to boost mental health, but trying some of her tried and tested diet and workout tips could have you feeling stronger and leaner (as well as happier) in no time.
Firstly, a strong core is fundamental to her game so Thompson uses the rowing machine to get her muscles in the zone for a workout.
“It gives you a full body warm up.” she told Yay Cork. “I also think it’s important to work on your core each time you exercise, whether it’s one or ten core exercises.”
While she doesn’t count calories, Thompson, a brand ambassador with Red Bull, makes sure she burns them off in the gym: “If I’m sweating I know I’m working.”
When it comes to her diet, she keeps things simple and nutritious, starting the day with a filling breakfast to rev up her metabolism.
“I’d always have porridge and fruit with linseed or flaxseed and some eggs for breakfast.” she told Yay Cork.
“I’d have a chicken salad for lunch and fish, rice and greens for dinner. I snack on fruit or a protein bar and I drink water throughout the day. I’ll add in more carbs before a match, training or a gym session.”
The pro athlete uses the hydra pool and a foam roll to release tightness and soothe her muscles after a big match or a strenuous workout.
We’re off to clean out the fridge and stock up on flaxseed.
