A new mural just popped up in Turner’s Cross and another is going up on Tuckey Street

The art is on the walls.
As well as injecting a little colour into our day as we amble around the city, good street art can start conversations and teach us about our history.
This week, the wonderful crew at Ardú Street Art Project, who are responsible for the captivating murals in Peace Park, South Main Street and Kyle Street (to name a few), unveiled the newest edition to Cork’s growing street art collection.

A new collaborative mural by artists Peter Martin and Shane O’Driscoll now adorns a wall at Coláiste Chríost Rí, in Turner’s Cross.
The piece, sponsored by Cork City Council, remembers the valiant work of the fire brigades during the Burning of Cork in December 1920 after members of the Royal Irish Constabulary Auxiliary Division set fire to the city centre with petrol and grenades. Brave firefighters fought flames and gunfire at the time in order to save the crumbling city centre.
On Tuckey Street, French illustrator and muralist Claire Prouvost and assistant Luhweezie of Minaw Collective have been putting the final touches to a full walled mural set to be unveiled next week.
We’re looking forward to seeing the finished product.
