A new Mick Flannery mural has been unveiled on the side of a Cork City pub

Here’s a fine reason to pop out for a pint later.
A brand new mural celebrating Mick Flannery’s latest album, The House Must Win, has appeared on the gable wall of Coughlan’s Bar on Douglas Street.
The eye-catching artwork brings the album’s cover art to life on a larger-than-life scale, transforming the side of the pub into a tribute to one of Cork’s most celebrated singer-songwriters.

The House Must Win, which was released recently, sees Flannery revisit the world of his debut album Evening Train, building on its themes and characters through the lens of years of songwriting, life experience and artistic evolution.
The mural is the result of a collaboration between several Irish artists. The original artwork was created by artist David McElroy, while the large-scale mural was painted by Wexford visual artist James Kirwan, whose colourful public artworks can be found across Ireland and beyond.
Adding a distinctly Cork touch to the piece is the inclusion of a perfectly poured pint of Beamish resting on the bar — a nod to both the mural’s sponsor and the city’s enduring love affair with the “creamy Beamie”.
Whether you’re a longtime Flannery fan or simply passing by on your way through the city, it’s well worth taking a moment to stop and admire one of Cork’s newest pieces of public art.
“Very cool to have the artwork for Mick Flannery’s new album The House Must Win on the gable end of Coughlans!” the bar crew said in an Instagram post.
