We don’t know why but new milkshakes are appearing on menus all over Cork

Ask yourself: when was the last time you let loose?
If letting loose was a dessert, it would undoubtedly be the milkshake; a gloopy cup of drinkable ice cream that will almost certainly give you the first brain freeze you’ve had since you were 11.
Sure, it’s still winter and no, there’s no good reason why this is happening, but new milkshakes have been appearing on takeaway menus across Cork this week.
Maybe we’re all craving a bit of nostalgia to help us cope with the crisis, or maybe it’s not that deep and humans just go weak at the knees for icy sugar.
Either way, ordering yourself a milkshake is a fine way to mark the end of a challenging week and say: To hell with it, I’m drinking a day’s calorie allowance in one go and nobody can stop me.
Here are four milkshakes guaranteed to bring all the boys to the yard:
1. PLANT-BASED MILKSHAKES AT VEGAN KO
Over at Vegan KO on Kyle Street, they’re testing an Oreo and a Peanut Butter and Caramel flavour. Naturally, both are 100% plant-based so you can still indulge your sweet tooth if you’re following a vegan diet.
There’s literally no excuse not to try one.

2. BOOZY MILKSHAKES AT SOBER LANE
Not only are they back at the chicken goujon fryers over at Sober Lane, they’ve also launched a trio of spiked €7 milkshakes. There’s a Bourbon and Fudge, made with a dollop of Nutella, The Tropical, made with passionfruit, ice cream and Malibu, and our favourite; The PBJ: a smooth boozy blend of peanut butter, raspberry purée, icecream and Havana rum.
You can order them sans alcohol too if you like, the menu is available here.

3. THE GOOEY BISCOFF AT SWOON
Okay, hands up, this one isn’t technically brand new, but if you’ve been avoiding sweet treats during January or you haven’t ventured into the city recently, you’ll have missed Swoon’s mighty Gooey Biscoff Milkshake.
It’s essentially a big spoon of Lotus Biscoff blended with ice cream to form a decadent biscuity shake that really is a thing of exceptional beauty.

4. SUPERFOOD SHAKES AT EAT STREET
Even the shakes are healthy at Eat Street, the new ‘healthier’ chipper concept from the folks behind Naturally Nourished Café at Penrose Dock.
There’s a Cacao Superfood Shake (almond milk, frozen banana, vanilla, milled flaxseed, maple syrup, raw organic cacao and ice), a Matcha Mint blend featuring antioxidant matcha green tea, a “Snickers” shake (oat milk, peanut butter, honey, frozen banana, raw organic cacao, dates) and a Mixed Berry shake (orange juice, mixed frozen berries, frozen banana, natural yoghurt) to choose from – all €5.50.
You can order them for collection with their luscious burgers here.
