WATCH: Eight 35ft Christmas trees appeared in locations around the city overnight

Cork’s streets have had a festive spruce-up.
Cork City Council crews were hard at work overnight hauling eight enormous Christmas trees into position, ready to be lit for the official kick-off of Christmas 2023 in Cork.
The trees, which are an impressive 35ft in height, take some expert handling to erect:

The prep has begun in earnest on the Grand Parade and St Patrick Street, where two gorgeous green firs take pride of place annually outside Brown Thomas and at the entrance to French Church Street.
Another huge tree is traditionally positioned outside the Crawford Art Gallery on Emmet Place, with two more at the end of Shandon Street and outside City Hall on Anglesea Street and a further towering tree at Triskel Christchurch on South Main Street.
Cornmarket Street is given its own festive centrepiece too and the twinkling Christmas lights will be strung across Opera Lane, ready for the big switch-on later this month.
