Trust us: This is Cork’s most magnificent almond croissant

We don’t take these things lightly.
When we heard rumblings of a pastry that fans regularly drive into Cork City at dawn to collect, we were intrigued. And suddenly ravenous.
It turns out that local pastry connoisseurs and foodies have been keeping a little secret: Cameron French Bakery on Washington Street.
As quality obsessive as the pâtisseries and boulangeries of Paris, the café has been open for a few years now, but in our hurry to grab their crisp fresh baquettes, sandwiches and excellent coffee, we’d missed the star of the show: the almond croissant.
Made daily to the classic French ‘Croissants aux Amandes’ recipe, this enormous breakfast pastry has an almond filling swirled throughout the dough. The toasted almond topping is baked into the crust, making for a sweet, crunchy, flaky, buttery treat that you’ll be dreaming about daily until you get your next fix.

And they sell out fast; staff struggle to keep the basket heaving with sugar-dusted goodness, so if you want one, get your act together early and make a beeline for the counter.
Might as well pick up some Mexican bread, brioche, waffles and brownies while you’re there…
Cameron Bakery is open from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday. Tell them we sent you.
