Collecting your lunch or dinner from Izz Cafe this week?
Now you can pick up a delectable new hot drink to warm your cockles on the way home from George’s Quay.
Cork’s favourite Palestinian Café has unveiled a brand new menu item that’s just what we need right now; Sahlab is a hot, creamy sweetened milk drink thickened with sahlab starch, which is made from the tubers of orchids.
The indulgent concoction is topped with a selection of extras, including pistachios, cinnamon, almonds and coconut for added texture.

Opened in 2019 by Palestinian couple Izz and Eman Alkarajeh, who spent time in Direct Provision after arriving in Ireland from Saudi Arabia with their four children, Izz Café quickly gained a reputation for serving up mouthwatering dishes such as baked spinach manousheh, labneh, babaganoush, fresh flatbreads and hummus – all of which is available for delivery and collection from Wednesday to Sunday weekly.
The new drink is yet another opportunity to sample some real Palestinian cooking right here on Leeside.
Izz Café say their Sahlab is “guaranteed to put a smile on your face and warmth in your belly.”
