Dreaming of a sneaky beach getaway?
The Costa del Sol might be beyond our reach this year, but if things go in the right direction in the next few weeks, a staycation on the Costa del Cork could be an option.
And if you’re looking for a stylish getaway for two, without spending hours in the car, this recently renovated Gate Lodge in Kilbrittain could be just the ticket.
Adorably rustic on the outside, inside it’s a charming modern hideaway – just a short spin from the city.
The property, which is currently available for limited May dates and autumn bookings on Airbnb, is just 500m from the Wild Atlantic Way and a 20-minute drive to Kinsale, Ballinspittle or Clonakilty, so you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to scenic day trips.
If you’d like to completely unwind, however, there’s no need to leave the area at all; beautiful beaches, forest walks, fishing, birdwatching and the famous Seven Heads Walk are all within reach on foot.
Rebecca’s Farm Shop and Cafe is a five-minute walk from the front door so you can stroll there for a long leisurely lunch and bring home some gourmet goodies for later.
There’s a barbecue outside too in case the weather allows for some alfresco dining.
“We were looking for a quiet, romantic getaway for New Year’s Eve and this little cottage delivered in bucket-loads,” said Aidan, who stayed at the Gate Lodge in January of 2020.
“It’s perfectly sized, designed and finished with a creative and caring touch. Lucy and Andy are the perfect hosts – delightful little touches (fire lighting on arrival, a fresh basket of logs the next morning), always available to advise and assist, but never intrusive in any way. This is a gem and we’ll certainly be back.” he added.
The best bit? It’s reasonable too; The Gate Lodge is available at €100 per night (two-night minimum) for a number of dates in May and further dates in September. You can check out the listing on Airbnb here.
