‘This is not us’: West Cork Literary Festival issues scam alert as authors targeted

Another day, another scam.
A local literary festival has issued a public warning after reports emerged of scam emails targeting authors with fake participation offers that request payment to take part.
A spokesperson for the festival took to Instagram to alert writers, saying:
“Scam Alert. We have been alerted by several authors who have received ‘invitations’ to appear at WCLF.”
The message explained that the emails in question are fraudulent and not connected to the organisation.
“These bogus invitations ask authors to pay to appear at the festival, and they are from this email address at.wclf.programming@gmail.com”

The festival stressed that it does not operate in this way and urged recipients to be cautious.
“This is not us. We will never ask authors to pay to appear the festival. If you receive one of these emails, please report it as spam. Thank you.”
The warning highlights a growing issue of impersonation scams targeting cultural events and creative professionals, with organisers encouraging anyone who receives suspicious correspondence to verify it through official channels before responding.
