Christmas trees have a special magic.

But if the drama of having to buy and dispose of one takes the sparkle out of the experience for you, a unique Blackrock business has an interesting alternative.

This year, Christmastree.ie is back again with their rented pot-grown Christmas (indoor or outdoor) trees, especially appealing to those who are looking to cut their carbon footprint instead of a healthy spruce.

You can rent or purchase your own living, breathing Christmas tree in a pot, bring it indoors at Christmas, and leave it in the pot all year ’round.

“Or just plant it in your garden and watch it flourish as a beautiful outdoor Christmas tree,” the company explained on Instagram.

A Christmas tree that has spent its entire life in a pot can last many years beyond the traditional lifespan of potted trees which are usually cut at the root. You can even get the same tree back again next year, “albeit a little bigger” –  just make sure you keep it watered over the festive period.

The pot-grown trees are available in four different species, and in various heights up to 6ft.

When you’re done you can drop the tree back to their shop in Mahon or the company can collect it from you at home. Each tree is sent back to the Christmas Tree farm to be specially cared for until the time comes again next year.

Trees cost between €45 to €75 and are available to purchase from their website.
