This Cork café’s Strawberry Crumble French Toast is the official breakfast of summer

Drop the Weetabix box.
Warm mornings and golden sunshine call for a decadent breakfast or brunch alfresco. And while you’re at it, order something fabulous.
Life’s too short for boring brekkie. That’s what they say at Greenwich on Caroline Street anyway, where you can stroll by on any given morning and see happy diners, sunglasses on, tucking into perfect plates of Strawberry Crumble French Toast from 9am.
The dish, probably the most summery meal on offer ’round these parts, involves perfectly cooked eggy bread topped with plump new-season Irish strawberries, crisp crumbly bits, smooth vanilla mascarpone, and strawberry coulis.

Greenwich has a naughty little reputation for outrageously good French toast, all washed down with plenty of locally roasted Golden Bean coffee. Or a juicy mimosa, if you’re feeling extra. Or two if you’ve the day off.
You can also try the Challah Bread French Toast; challah bread dipped in egg and cream, then fried in butter until golden and served with Rosscarbery Bacon and maple syrup or homemade fruit compote.
They do all the required brunchy dishes too, of course; eggs every which way, a pair of bacon-stuffed baps, two ways, crunchy cashew granola, and some marvellous mushrooms on sourdough.
If you’re more of a pancake fan, the Banoffee stack is layered with banana, dulce de leche, softly whipped cream, and chocolate shavings.
Rise and shine indeed.
