It’s been one helluva Pride week…
The girls, the gays, and the theys turned out in a tour de force to take part in workshops, attend events, walk in the Pride parade, and dance at the Port of Cork to Irish pop princess Nadine Coyle.
The city now boasts its first rainbow crossing (installed on Patrick’s Street in July) and the country’s largest pride flag, which took over the streets at Sunday’s parade.
Now, a Cork bar is stepping up to provide a safe space for queer folk all year-’round. Atlas Cork has announced a party night for the LGBTQ+ people of Cork, taking place every Thursday at the Marlboro Street bar, although the venue will be operating as queer-oriented at all times.
“We’ve just had the most magical Pride weekend here in Cork thanks to the tireless work of the fantastic @corkpride Committee. The Queer Folk of Cork served an absolute tour de force of Love, Diversity, and Inclusion. Y’all inspired us to step on out of the closet,” said the bar on Instagram.
“Our community spans all ages, colours, backgrounds, and identities and we are ecstatic at the opportunity to provide a new, safe, and relaxed environment for all our people to enjoy. Our city has been devoid of the resources and opportunities that our chosen family deserve, and we mean it with all our heart when we say we are eager to change this.”
The night will be spearheaded by Lucina Schynning, Atlas’s queen-in-residence, “to ensure that each-and-every move we make is entirely in the best interests of the LGBT+ Community of Cork.”
“All we ask of you is that you remain loud, proud, and UNAPOLOGETICALLY QUEER”
