There’s a Scrabble tournament coming to Cork and absolutely anyone can enter

Tired of hiding your competitive streak?
And if you’re a bit of a logophile and you’d like to see how your skills measure up against people outside of your (tame) family Scrabble game, you might want to cancel your plans for the last weekend in March.
The All-Ireland Scrabble Association, which regularly hosts competitions around the country, is bringing the show Leeside for a two-day battle of the brains, where contestants will face off to take home the title of Cork Scrabble Champion.
The competition takes place in The Address, Military Hill in St Luke’s (formerly The Ambassador Hotel) on Saturday, March 25th and Sunday, March 26th, and is it’s open format (which means anyone can compete) with 14 games played over the two days.
The event is going to be a big one on the Scrabble calendar – rooms at the hotel are already sold out for the event, but there are still plenty available nearby.
Each game will be timed and the clocks set to 25 minutes per player per game, so you’ve got to be quick.
For the lucky winner and runners-up, there are even cash prizes on offer. The event will be both ABSP (Association of British Scrabble Players) and WESPA (the World English Language Scrabble Players Association) rated.
The tournament has already received more than 50 signups and counting. Entry costs €40 per person, payable on the first morning of the event. If you’d like to find out more and put your name down, head over to the event page here to find out more.
