The work of local poets will be popping up in three Cork City parks this week

Everything is going outdoors this summer.
Now Cork City Libraries are giving poetry the al fresco treatment by inviting the public to enjoy the work of local writers as they stroll around Cork City’s beautiful parks.
‘Poetry in the Park’, an exciting new initiative from Cork City Libraries in collaboration with Cork City Council’s Parks and Recreation Operations, will be rolled out tomorrow, Thursday, April 29th in three locations.
A variety of poems written by local poets will be proudly displayed in the Regional Park Ballincollig, Tramore Valley Park, and Fitzgerald Park to celebrate Poetry Day Ireland 2021. Works by emerging and young poets will be installed alongside well-established award winners, which will be updated throughout the summer.
“At a time when so many people are making use of our beautiful parks, we are also taking the opportunity to showcase the vibrant literary life of Cork,” said Patricia Looney, Senior Executive Librarian at Cork City Libraries.
“We have included poetry in many languages to highlight the diversity of writing here in Cork City and the future of the literary scene. The theme of this year’s Poetry Day Ireland is New Directions: Maps and Journeys and this is certainly a new direction for presenting poetry to the public in our city.’
