The HSE is recruiting for Community Swabbers to work at Cork Covid-19 testing sites

By Yay Cork September 7, 2020September 7, 2020

It’s a uniquely 2020 role.

The Health Service Executive is recruiting for Community Swabbers to help lead the charge in the fight against coronavirus by swabbing patients who present for Covid-19 testing.

According to the job posting, the Community Swabber will take samples from the nose and throat of people who are being tested for Covid-19, and carry out other administrative duties as part of Community Testing Teams around the country.

The starting salary is €28,271.

“Swabbing can take place in Community Test Centres, home-based testing, outbreak testing, residential care facilities and specific work locations. The roles will primarily be filled on a 12-month contract basis and the employer will be the HSE.” said the HSE in a statement.

Having access to transport is important as the Community Swabber is required to move locations as needed, but in Cork, the two main locations appear to be at the Lee testing centre and at a similar centre in Dunmanway.

We are recruiting people for the role of Community Swabber to work in our COVID-19 Testing Teams around Ireland. This role will help support our response to #COVID19. You can read more about this role and how to apply here➡️https://t.co/1pSWNjXX0h pic.twitter.com/ddg8SaHx65

“The Community Swabber will wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to carry out the role. The role can quite physical with standing, bending and working outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather. The Community Swabber will receive full training to carry out this role and will be supported by the team.”

There is also an administrative element to the job, this includes confirming patient details, labelling tubes and packaging swabs.

Applications are invited from all suitably qualified individuals who meet the eligibility criteria (Leaving Cert or equivalent standard or satisfactory relevant experience which encompasses demonstrable equivalent skills).

If you’re planning on applying for the position of Community Swabber, all applications must be lodged before September 14th, 2020. You can check out the full job description here.
