The Glass Curtain opens soon (and the interior is absolutely gorgeous)

It’s due to open in the coming days.
But if you’re eager to see how Thompson Bakery has been transformed into MacCurtain Street’s newest restaurant, their interior designer has offered a peek inside before the doors officially open to customers.
Founded in 1826, Thompson’s Bakery employed generations of Cork people, churning out millions of cakes, puddings and other sweet treats until the 1980s. Soon however, customers will be enjoying an exciting menu carefully developed by chef Brian Murray and his team, who have been getting settled in the kitchen.
Cork-based interiors whiz Cathy Angelini of Flamingo Interior Design worked with the owners to carefully preserve as much of the handsome building’s character as possible, while adding plenty of sophistication to the space too.

The old walls have been lime washed and lit with polished brass pendants, while contemporary velvet seating and a modern take on the iconic cow horn chair sit next to Victorian style cast iron pedestals, bringing old and new together in a slick contemporary design.
Even the loos have had a magnificent makeover…

The bar, hand made in reeded walnut, with opal glass pendants above and Winckelmans Victorian-style check tiles underfoot, offers an inviting spot to sip a cocktail while waiting for your table.
In the background you can even see a vintage photograph of a group of Thompson Bakery workers, taken 66 years ago.
