A much-loved seaside restaurant has announced it’s closing after 25 years

A much-loved Cork restaurant has announced it is closing after 25 years in business.
Lynch’s On The Pier in Castletownbere has shared the news with customers in a heartfelt statement, announcing that the eatery will close just before Christmas 2026.
Owners Darren and Maria Lynch said they have made the “difficult decision” to close the restaurant side of the business and instead concentrate on their accommodation offering.
And after a quarter of a century, it’s clear that this isn’t just the end of a restaurant for the owners.
“What started as a restaurant became so much more – a place where friendships were made, milestones were celebrated, stories were shared, and countless memories were created around our tables,” they said.

The couple thanked their customers for their support and loyalty over the years, as well as for allowing the restaurant to be part of so many special moments in their lives. They also paid tribute to their staff, both past and present, describing them as “incredible” and saying their hard work, dedication and friendship had been at the heart of the restaurant.
The announcement will undoubtedly be sad news to regulars who have spent years celebrating birthdays, special occasions and plenty of ordinary days over a meal at Lynch’s.
The owners said that while closing the restaurant has been a difficult decision, they now feel that the time is right for them.
They added that they will leave the chapter with “an enormous sense of gratitude and pride” for the journey they have shared.
The restaurant will remain open until just before Christmas 2026, giving customers one final chance to visit and enjoy a meal before Lynch’s closes its restaurant doors.
For Darren and Maria, however, it’s not quite the end of the story.
The couple will continue with the accommodation side of the Lynch’s On The Pier business, meaning the familiar name will remain on the waterfront even after the restaurant closes.
For now, though, it’s a fond farewell to 25 years of dinners, celebrations, catch-ups and memories around the tables.
