Take a stroll across town on Sunday for the first ever Blackpool Block Party

It’s one of the city’s oldest neighbouthoods.
But if you haven’t strolled around Blackpool in a while, there’s a new reason to check it out.
This Sunday, August 24th, from 1pm to 5pm, the streets of Blackpool are coming alive for the inaugural Blackpool Block Party on Great William O’Brien Street.
Organised in partnership with the brilliant Cork Community Art Link and the Blackpool Community Centre, they’ve gone all out to celebrate everything that makes this corner of Cork special, with a marquee and a stage for the day.
The community shindig will feature an eclectic mix of live music with the likes of the Ceilí All Stars, the legendary Kabin Crew, the Heppsters Jazz Trio, and the Tomás Mac Curtain Pipe Band.

But the craic doesn’t stop there. The whole afternoon is packed with savage activities for everyone. The little ones (and the big ones!) can enjoy street theatre from the Cork Community Art Link Drama Troupe, musical theatre from Super Stars Stage School, and even an acrobatics workshop with Ally Futto.
Hands-on workshops
For those who fancy getting a bit more hands-on, there are flash fiction workshops with Graffiti Theatre, DIY bike repair with Cork Community Bikes, and knitting classes from the Blackpool Knitting Group. And if you’ve got something broken you’ve been meaning to fix, bring it along to the Repair Café where you can learn a new skill.
Food-wise, you’re in for a treat. They’ll be serving free pizza and salad, a tea party under a big marquee, and plenty of delicious traybakes and scones.
Plus, the amazing folks from the local community gardens will be giving away seasonal produce, as well as free planters, pots, compost, and seeds so you can get your own garden started at home.
It’s all happening on Sunday in Blackpool, and it’s a brilliant way to spend an afternoon celebrating the community.
