If you’re a fan of Eighties and Nineties music (seriously, who isn’t?) Cork’s newest bar is home to everything you’ll require for an excellent night out.

Located on the ground floor of the Voodoo Rooms complex on Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork City, Popscene will open every Friday and Saturday night (8pm ‘til late) with the resident DJ entirely dedicated to playing the hits of the ‘80s and ‘90s.

The best bit? It’s decorated like a scene from Top of the Pops (or your teenage bedroom).

We got a sneak peek inside before they opened the doors today and the place is an Eighties and Nineties dream, from the dance floor to the cocktail list.

Head up the zebra print stairs at the entrance (just under the Voodoo sign, FYI) and you’ll find the DJ playing the hits from the neon light-up boom box on the dance floor (no need to request Whitney, A-Ha or Journey, they’re guaranteed to be on the playlist).

The cocktail list is an homage to the era that gave us the Sex on the Beach and the Long Island Ice Tea (both €10) but there’s also a Papa Don’t Peach, an MC Hammered and a Carrie Bradshaw to try.

Naturally, the tables in the bar’s comfy booths have been specially made to light up like giant Rubik’s cubes and there’s an entire wall dedicated to the cast of Friends…

Hold onto your leg warmers; the Fat Frog Fishbowl (€12.99) is the fuel you’ll need if you’re hitting the dance floor with the gang. It’s also the perfect tipple to order if you plan on taking over a Popscene karaoke booth and hollering along to Don’t Stop Believin’ for an hour or two.

And what’s a mad night out without some photographic evidence to enjoy with your hangover the next morning?

Make a beeline for the photo booth where 80s and 90s props and costumes await to help you disguise yourself before the flash goes off…

Popscene’s doors are opening just in time for those Christmas parties but it’s also perfect for staff celebrations, hens, stags and big birthdays (as well as a cheeky boogie on an average Saturday night).

Even the loos are an homage to the best musical era that ever was…
