We’ve all got fond memories of beach trips to Youghal.
And with staycations front and centre this summer, there’s never been a better time to go back and relive them, especially when there’s fancy accommodation to be had.
Just a few minutes walk to the sand, Periwinkle Cottage boasts glorious views of the sea from every window, with a large wooden deck designed for kicking back and taking it all in over a glass of wine or a frosty beer.
The cottage sleeps four adults (there’s one bedroom and a sofa bed) with a cute kitchen and a modern bathroom ensuring a comfy stay while you explore the most easterly town in Cork.
Guests receive a generous basket of staples including wine, beers, soft drinks, tea, coffee, milk, Irish brown bread, butter, eggs, beans, biscuits so you can relax a while before heading out in search of groceries.
Other essentials such as shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner are also provided so you can pack light.
There’s plenty to keep everyone entertained locally, from the 400-metre Boardwalk that leads from Front Strand onto Claycastle Blue Flag Beach, to swimming at Redbarn or at The Mall Beach, right in the centre of town.
Once all the sand has been washed away, you can fire up the gas barbecue at Periwinkle Cottage for an alfresco dinner (tip: stock up on burgers and steaks at one of Youghal’s traditional butcher’s shops) or head out and try one of the town’s many restaurants and takeaways.
Periwinkle Cottage is available for two-night reservations at €235 per night on Airbnb.
