You have to make your own fun these days.
And while Oktoberfest might be cancelled for obvious reasons, one Cork pub has come up with another (socially-distanced) way to raise a quiet toast to the sacred Bavarian festival.
The Oval, which has been open on South Main Street for more than 100 years, is now selling an Oktober Fest ‘Best of the Wurst’ box containing a delicious selection of German snack cuisine – long accepted as an excellent accompaniment to alcohol.
Inside the €9 pub picnic, you’ll find a serving of Midaza mustard, pate, Silesian sausage, some smoked cheese, pretzels, sauerkraut and dry sausage – an ideal meal for pairing with pints.
Of course, you no longer have to shell out for a ‘substantial meal’ just to order a drink anymore, but if your stomach is rumbling, this’ll do the trick nicely – just grab a cosy corner in the atmospheric, candlelit bar and settle in for the evening.
We will not only be continuing our current food options, we are also adding a new one from this Thursday. Oktober Fest…
If you’re planning a night out with a few drinks and you don’t want to waste any time organising soakage, it’s an excellent shout.
The Oval recommend washing it all down with a local Grainú Ale Belgian Wheat Ale, brewed just over the road at Rising Sons on the Coal Quay.
