Every little helps.
Cork City Council’s Douglas parking promotion, which began after a fire ripped through the village’s car park in September, will continue for the rest of this month.
One hour free on-street parking is still available from Monday to Saturday in Douglas, with free parking available on Sundays.
The promotion was introduced to help struggling businesses to recover following the devastating effects of a car fire at Douglas Shopping Centre, which is expected to reopen following extensive demolition and rebuilding works by summer 2020.
According to a statement released today, Cork City Council will review the situation as further detail emerges about when the shopping centre car park is likely to re-open.
Meanwhile, Douglas Farmer’s Market continues every Saturday from 10am until 2pm in a new location near The Gate Cinema. After being ousted from their regular pitch following the fire, market traders have been settling into their new weekend home, with plenty of support from locals.
Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr John Sheehan said: “Douglas is very much open for business and if you’re doing some shopping or having a bite to eat, there’s a great range of shops and restaurants in Douglas.”
