New awards night will celebrate Cork people who ‘did sound things’ during the lockdown

When the chips are down, we’re a pretty sound bunch.
Now a brand new awards night happening next month will recognise Cork people and companies that “did sound things” during a gruelling 18 months of lockdowns.
Hosted by Cork actor and writer Tadhg Hickey, the Rebel Spirit Awards will pay tribute to the “artists, musicians, companies, community activists, public service members and more that made hearts burst with joy when we needed it most”.
There are 12 award categories for the Rebel Spirit Awards and members of the public can nominate people and companies they think should get recognition. All nominees will be considered by a panel of judges and the awards will be presented in the Metropole Hotel on November 17th, 2021.
Quiet heroes
“There were quiet heroes all around us doing work to help others out, people who did it because they felt it was the right thing to do, and never sought any attention for what they did,” said Sarah Walshe of event sponsors MBC Financial.
“We want to hear about them and let others know what they did.”
The event will be run by Sockies organiser Damien Mulley of Mulley Communications and nominations will open this Friday, October 8th at rebelspirit.ie.
