Motorists face icy roads across Cork this morning with Low Temp warning in place

If you can delay your journey it’s probably a good idea.
Cork remains under a Status Yellow Low Temperature/Ice warning until 11am today, Monday, January 5th, with road users reporting treacherous conditions on many routes.
Temperatures fell to between -2 and -5 degrees in many areas with rainfall, sleet and snow overnight throughout the county. Cork County Council treated all P1 and P2 routes overnight and P3 routes will be treated during daylight today.
“There is a high probability of freezing fog and mist leading to a high probability of black ice.” a Council spokesperson said.
“Snow ploughs have been deployed to P1 and P2 routes in North West Cork.”
Glanmire is very icy this morning and motorists are advised to drive with caution in Rockchapel and Millstreet, on the R627 Midleton–Dungourney Road, and on the Northern Relief Road, Midleton.
Due to freezing conditions, Dunmanway Swimming Pool will open at the later time of 11am today, Monday.
‘Avoid unnecessary journeys’
The advice is to stay put for the morning, but if you must travel, motorists are urged to drive with extreme care.
“There is high probability that there will be icy stretches, and black ice throughout the county and even on treated roadways; pedestrians and cyclists should exercise extreme caution as footpaths and other untreated surfaces could be treacherous.” the spokesperson continued.
“People are advised to prepare for this period of severe weather including ensuring their mobile phone is fully charged to enable communication; take your phone with you on all journeys.”
