Just outside Macroom, this pizza garden might be a foodie’s dream date destination

It’s not on your usual route west.
In fact, if you weren’t looking for it, you’d drive right past it.
But just outside Macroom town as you head west to Inchigeelagh, hopping off the bridge over the Toon River, ’round the bend past Creedon’s Bar, you’ll find the unassuming Toons Bridge Shop and Pizzeria nestled between the hedges.
Home to the famous Toons Bridge food company, this picturesque herb and vegetable garden is surrounded by trees, bees, and seating areas in different nooks around the lawns.
Guests can even nab a seat in the repurposed flower-filled polytunnel, the perfect location for an impromptu date or day out with the kids… especially if it’s drizzling.
On top of the full range of Toons Bridge Dairy cheeses, all made on-site, the shop also sells Mediterranean foods from The Real Olive Company as well as local produce such as Coolea cheese, local apple juice, and 9 White Deer beer.
Shoppers can pick up local eggs to take home as well as antiques, soaps, and ceramics.
The main draw is, of course, their own melt-in-the-mouth woodfired pizza, made to order using their own cheeses, and ingredients.
The Toonsbridge Shop and Pizzeria have recently expanded their opening hours to serve Friday customers, with pizza served in the garden from 3pm. You can also pop in on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to browse the shop and pizza is served from 12pm over those days.

If you’re really looking to make a day of it, head west for another 15km until you hit Gougane Barra- though if you want to do any walking or climbing, you might head here first and drop into Toonsbridge on the way back.
Toons Bridge Dairy is located in Toonsbridge, Macroom, Co Cork, and is open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
